Laptop for me?

I took a test at Macworld today, and it says a portable Mac suits me more. I'd like to have one too, but I'm definitely not buying one now, because I (or my dad, rather) have no money, my Mac mini is still new, and the Intel Macs are coming next year. But when I really ask myself what reasons do I have to buy a labtop, I can't suggest one.
The test asked me if the working environment I have now is comfortable, I said no. I guess it's the main reason I was recommended a laptop. Because there's not a big difference between the points of desktop and laptop (6 to 8). Other reasons include I don't use much external devices. But the biggest reason people use a laptop, to use it when travelling, doesn't work for me. I don't need to work outdoors. Maybe things will be diffferent years later when I get into a university. But now I don't need it. I think it's too early to think about that. The laptop might not stand so many years.
Really, I promised myself that I will have an iBook years later (or a PowerBook, now I think it's more attractive). But it's more practical to think about it a few years later, because things will be different when there are Intel Macs. The problem is I can't stop thinking about it. I think about it every time I run across the 'Books. It's unstoppable.

New iMac!

I really love the new iMac G5! It's even more charming than before. There is the new Front Row, with the simple 6-botton remote control. It's really cool. It really made me want to buy it. Apple has done excellent work with it. The menus are like those on iPod, so they are as easy to use. The remote is incredible, comparing to the remotes of those Media Centre PCs, as Steve Jobs mentioned. Six buttons can do all. No need for 40 buttons. I wonder what those buttons do.
The other new feature is the built-it iSight. I don't know why it has to be black. It's so weird to see a black spot on the beautiful whitee body of iMac. Anyway, the Photo Booth is interesting. Though I don't like to take pictures of myself, I think I would take a lot if I had the iMac. There are many funny effects there. It was so funny when Steve tried them.
This iMac is probably the last one with PowerPC. And then the PowerMac/Book that will be introduced next week in another event will be the last computers with PowerPC. (I wonder what else will be in the event except Power machines, everyone should know about them. But it will be go to have a surprise. There is a suggestion about a product for photos since on the next day, there will be a big photo event.) Next year there will be Intel Macs. I promised myself that I will buy a iBook then :)

vPod?

There are many rumours about a new video iPod that is going to be released in an event next Wednesday. I read an article in AppleInsider about it, and it seems that it is true. But many other people say it will be some faster PowerMacs. I don't know, we will all have to wait for the special event.

Microsoft Messenger

It came out on Tuesday, but I got it on Wednesday, probably because of the time difference. The updated version has some new features, but still lacking some comparing to the Windows version. The feature I like most is the display picture. I always liked to change pictures when I used the messenger for Windows. The new version has got a new look, it looks better than before generally, but I still hate the big round "Send" button in conversation windows. One of the lacking features is contact card. I am still not notified when my contacts updates their MSN Spaces. Some other lacking features are displaying contact's picture in contact list, and the private message that is beside the name. One last good thing of the new version is the ad in the contact list is removed. :)

The Mighty Mouse

It came out some days ago. Apple says it has four buttons, but what I like most is the scrolling ball. I have got used to the one-bottoned mouse, and I always forget that I can press the right button when I use PC. Also I read that it is quite big. So I don't think I will want the mouse. But it is selling very well. It got the 13th place in Amazon.com's eletronics list.

Dragging widgets off Dashboard

It's the "Feature of the week":

Widgets Wherever
Want to view a frequently used Dashboard widget alongside your current applications? Just open Dashboard, access the Widget Bar, then drag out the widget you want and hold down the F12 key. Dashboard disappears, leaving your standalone widget on screen. Close it by opening Dashboard again.

I think this is a great feature, just not so convenient that you have to drag it from the Widget Bar, not directly from the Dashboard screen. And when I wanted to use another widget that is not dragged to desktop, the widget on the desktop goes back to Dashboard and won't get back to Dashboard. I hope this can be fixed,

Most unfortunate iPod: acting up on the 1st day, service on the 2nd day

I received the new iPod on Monday. I was very excited then. I charged it for a while, then I connected it to my Mac to get the iPod update. After the update, the iPod told me to connect it to the AC adapter. I did so, but nothing happened. I put it there for hours, still nothing. I got very sad and disappointed. How could this happen? I hadn't listened to a song on it! I was so worried.
The next day I went to Causeway Bay to get repair service. First my father and I went to Apple's office. It was quite beautiful there. There was an iMac on the left, and a big white apple decoration on the wall. There were also some sofas. I was quite amazed because I had never seen an actual iMac before, and the apple decoration was quite interesting indeed. The woman there told us to get to another office to get repair, so we got there. That office was not good. It was small. There were not many people, but many of them were foreigners. We waited for a while, Then we could talk to a woman. I told her about the proplem, and she took my iPod to see. She told me that I should follow the iPod's direction and plug the iPod to the adapter. She did it herself, and suddenly the iPod worked again! I was very surprised. How come I tried many times at home but failed, and she only did it once and it works? :S Anyway I'm still happy that I can finally have an iPod to use, though I would love to know why it didn't work for me.
I got back home and filled the iPod. The first song I played on the iPod was "What I Want Is What I've Got" by Westlife. Then I played "Low" by Coldplay as the words on the back of my iPod are lyrics of this song. I am still very happy with the iPod. Next I will name the iPod. It is called "Candy Cheung's iPod", as suggested by iTunes. I hope I will get a really good name for my iPod.

iPod, finally

I have finally placed my order for iPod! :D Very crazy indeed. I have put some words on the back of it. "All you ever wanted to be, Living in perfect symmetry" Lyrics from Coldplay's Low, in X&Y. (I just bought X&Y today.) I put these words because they remind me of Poirot, or Mr Monk. Both of them love symmetry. I don't know whether to buy the Camera Connector or not... They are honestly not too expensive but I can't afford it after the iPod. Plus I can't find it anywhere except the Apple online store. If I buy it, my father must know because he's gotta pay for it.

iPod and iPod photo become one

Selling at HK$2400 (20GB). The same price as a G4 iPod. Very great news for me indeed as I wanted to buy a iPod photo. I will order it online i guess.

First Post: Converting songs using iTunes

Almost finished converting my songs into AAC format. I'm going to save some space by doing this.
